Babbles: August 2 - ...

Wow, it is school time again! That is so hard to believe! The barn has been crazy busy, as usual. All the babies have been weaned. Everyone has been going 50 different directions for shows. We are getting quite a few horses ready to sell (we are hoping to reduce the herd a good bit, especially the broodmares).

Ms Annette and Christy were at the 4H Southern Regionals this weekend, where they did us proud. Christy and Dottie daylighted the field by a second Saturday night, giving her a 4th place finish overall! Great job!!

Koda is at the Buckskin World Show this week, so we can't wait to see how he does in the pleasure classes. Then he is coming back home and going back to turning cans! What a fabulous all-around horse he is!

Mackenzie and Henry went to the Gibson County Fair, where Henry placed 1st in the Jack under 1 year category and won Reserve Champion Jack, and making Mackenzie $20 richer! they were definitely the hit of the show and Henry was much better behaved than most of the other donkeys and mules there, even those MUCH older than him!

This coming Saturday, Kenzie, Justin, Lyssie and Linda will be taking a slew of horses back to the fair for the youth halter classes and will hopefully come home will as many ribbons as horses! (and the money is pretty nice!!) This will be after the usual Henry County crew goes to the make-up show Friday night since we didn't ride Saturday the 1st.

Lots of things going on, as usual! Hope everyone has a great start to the school year!

WOW - that was a mouth full or rather a text full! LOL.

It has been a crazy summer. Justin's whole summer was pretty much ruined when he broke his arm. He goes back to school tomorrow and he is not real excited about that. Hopfully next summer will be different for him.

Christy took over the reins for him and made us proud!!!!!! She has had an incredible summer. She started out winning the barrels and placing 3rd in the poles at the 4-H District show and she ended the summer and her 4-H career this past weekend by winning the Barrels Finals at the 4-H Southern Regionals in Little Rock, AR. And has accumulated many titles and awards in between.

Dottie is back to her old self. She got hurt the Monday after 4-H Districts and we have been doctoring her since. He leg is almost healed and she is running faster than ever.

Dottie and Justin both had bad luck at the beginning of the summer. Dottie faired better than Justin, but hopfully they are both ready to go down the road some more.

Speaking of going down the road - Christy, Dottie, Jill and myself will leave for the KY State Fair AQHA Show next Wednesday. Wish Us Luck!!!!!!!!

Rachel and I went to watch McKenzie and Henry on Saturday at the Bibson County Fair. Rachel has not worked enough with Rex to bring him but will definetly have him there next year. What LeeAnn failed to mention was McKenzie and Henry won the cuteness award hands down. They make an adorable pair and I hope LeeAnn got some good pictures to post for everyone to see. The judge also paid McKenzie a tremendous complement in the grand champion event by saying she had the most well behaved/trained donkey. Way to go McKenzie!

I went by the Agricenter Saturday and got to see Koda! I was excited. But I was sad I didn't get to see Ms. Annette on Sunday. Do you know what time he shows Thursday?

August 3, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTootie

Hi Tootie. I am sorry I missed you too!!! I don't have a clue what time he will be showing on Thursday. I will be there bright and early. I will text you as the show progresses to let you know about what time I think. How far are you from the Agricenter?

August 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnnette

Koda ended up 4th in the World!!!!!!!!! Not bad for a barrel horse that has only had about 6 months pleasure training. The horses he competed against have been pleasure horses their whole lives. I am VERY PROUD of him and Bear. He did a great job showing him. We beat some really good horses and were beat by a couple of great ones. All in all, it was a great day.

Now comes the question - What is next in store for KODA? Well, we are going to a show in Mason tonight so I can make my debut on him. Don't expect the same results. LOL

August 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnnette

Well, Henry was rained out AGAIN - what is up with all this rain?!?!? (and this was a make-up from the rain-out last Saturday night!) So Annette, Kenzie and I headed to Mason for the Friday night saddle club show just for fun. The horses were clean - there was NO WAY we were staying home!!
Halter - Annette 1st, LeeAnn 2nd
Buckaroo Class - Kenz 3rd
PeeWee Barrels - Kenz 4th
Open Walk Trot - LeeAnn 2nd, Annette 4th
Pony Class - Kenz 2nd
Western Pleasure - LeeAnn 3rd

It was a decent little show - much bigger crowd than I was expecting with a good bit of competition!

While we were in Mason, Christy and Dottie were at the Gibson County Fair Rodeo where they came in 2nd!! (and won some cold hard cash!!) They beat some pretty big names so we are super proud of them!! They are headed back again tonight so hopefully they will win some $ again!

This morning we took 4 trailer loads of horses to the halter show at the fair. Everyone came home with as many ribbons as horses and money for each ribbon!
Pony - Justin/Maggie 1st, Kenzie/Diego 2nd, Linda/Dixie 3rd, Lyssie/ Lil B 4th
Mare 5 & under - Justin/Jill 1st
Mare 6 & older - Justin/Dottie 2nd, Kenzie/Molly Sue 3rd, Lyssie/Brandy 5th
Geldings 5 & under - Lyssie/Dandy 1st, Justin/George 2nd, Linda/Squiggy 3rd
Geldings 6 & older - Justin/Koda 1st, Kenzie/Remi 2nd
Justin and Jill also got Reserve Champion Mare, Justin and Koda got Grand Champion Gelding and Lyssie and Dandy got reserve Champion Gelding. It was a fun morning adn the show only took an hour!
Hope everyone stays cool - it is ridiculously hot out there!!

What am I missing? When did Dandy become a gelding....I thought he was a stud?

August 9, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJenny

How did you miss that?!?!?!? Linda had him gelded in June. So he is actually going to get to be a real horse, now - turned out, taken places, and ridden by people other than professionals! He has been a very good boy - still a few studdish hollers every now and then, but overall very good. Linda is almost through with his paddock behind the house so that he can be turned out with a friend (haven't decided who that will be, yet) but he will love being out, I know!

I have tried really hard to bring Justin up right with morals and a strong character. I thought I had done a decent job until he "STOLE" Kenzie and Diego's blue ribbon right out from under them!!!!!!! We are all still wondering how that happened. Maybe it was the fact that Justin certaintly made Maggie look like a pony. LOL I was very proud of him for going and showing. He really hates halter classes, but these only took about 5 minutes each. Us moms were more sweatty than the kids because we were busy getting the next horse ready. All of the kids did a great job in showing their horses. They will make great "showmen and women" yet!!

Christy had another great run Saturday night. She ended up 3rd and won almost as much as she did Friday. There were more entries. We are off to the Kentucky State Fair AQHA show Wednesday. We are taking Dottie and Jill. Wish us luck.

On a slower note. I should have tied Koda to the trailer and sat back in an easy chair and watched the rest of the night at Mason. I couldn't have done any worse. It was not pretty!!!! Don't let anyone tell you that it is easy to ride a pleasure horse. "IT IS NOT" Just ask LeeAnn. Remi was a mess when she bought him, but she has worked hard and he is awesome now. I have been banned from Koda for 8 months and now he has buttons I have never used. It was a disaster. We will be going to bear for a long lesson on button use!!!!!!! Hopfully next time will not be so ugly.

We had a good night at Oakfield Saturday night! It was alomost a Back 9 sweep in halter! Christy took Dandy through the barrels for the 1st time and Koda went from Annette's halter and walk-trot horse to Justin's barrel horse throughout the night! So it was a good night overall. Here's the ribbon count - there was some horse switching around, so I'll put the horse in ():

Halter - 1st Annette (Koda), 2nd Alexis (Remi), 3rd Linda Sr (Dandy), 4th Carrie (Georgia)
Youth Halter Showmanship - 1st Mackenzie (Diego), 2nd Alexis (Remi), 3rd Taylor (Mia)
Pony Class - 2nd Meckenzie
Adult Walk Trot - 1st Annette (Koda), LeeAnn (Remi)
Youth Poles - 3rd Sara (Lucy), 4th Alexis (Duke)
Open Poles - 4th Sara
Open Hunt Seat - 2nd Lyssie (Brandy), 5th Christy (Koda)
Youth Western Pleasure - 2nd Alexis (Duke), 4th Mackenzie, 5th Lyssie
Youth Barrels - 1st Alexis (Duke), 4th Justin (Koda)

We also had a rodeo in country pleasure as Remi showed me his displeasure about having to go slow!!! I feel pretty good about our trot - we have come a LOOOOONG way there!! But we are struggling to find a confort zone at the lope. He does great at home - even in the warm up, but I am not doing something right during the class. So we will be loping miles and miles this winter to try to get that right! If we can make half the progress over the winter with our lope as we have made in the last few months at the trot, then I might have a show horse!! LOL! Either way, I am proud of the progress we have made and how much I hav learned in the progress! However, I was not proud of the bucking Saturday night ! the good news is that his bucks are pretty wimpy, so I didn't fall off! HA!

On another proud note, Annette and Koda kicked butt in walk trot! She is finding those buttons! It won't take long at all til it looks like she has been riding him all along. And Christy had a great ride on him in hunt seat and the judge told her that they would have won the class except that they pickled up the wrong lead one direction. Christy figured it out quick and corrected, but the judge saw it.

We have a busy weekend coming up with Chesterfield Friday night and Gibson Saturday night. There is also a barrel race put on by Gibson County High School Sunday afternoon. So lots of showing to be done!! Hope everyone has a great week!!

August 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeeAnn

As I re-read that post, do I even want to discuss all the typos? probably not! Oh well - it is early Monday morning, so cut me some slack!! LOL

August 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeeAnn

Chesterfield was a rain-out - again!!! So it was Gibson County this weekend. And it was an interesting night. The cool temps had a lot of the horses feeling froggy - including some of ours. Remi was horrible, bucking in pretty much every class with me. And even Koda bucked with Christy in the English classes. I personally think that we both need awards for staying on in those bicycle seats with stirrups on a bucking horse!! It was also a really late one, we left after 2:00 a.m. and youth barrels hadn't even started yet! We opted not to run in barrels since the ground was hard as a rock! But here are the results from most of the night:

Pony Halter - Mackenzie 1st
PeeWee Halter - Taylor Singleton 1st, Linda 2nd, Lyssie 5th
Adult Halter - Linda Sr 1st, 4th Annette, 5th LeeAnn
GAited Hlater - Hannah Miller 5th
PeeWee Hunt Seat - 3rd Lyssie, 4th Linda, 5th Peyton
PeeWee English Equitation - 3rd Lyssie, 4th Lia, 5th Peyton
Youth Hunt Seat - 3rd Alexis
Youth English Eq - 3rd Alexis
Adult Hunt Seat (bucks and all!!) 3rd Christy (Koda), 4th LeeAnn
Adult Eng Eq - 4th LeeAnn, 5th Christy (Koda)
PW Walk Trot - 2nd Mackenzie, 3rd Linda, 5th Lyssie
PW Western Pleasure - 2nd Mackenzie, 3rd Linda, 4th Lyssie
PW Western Horsemanship - 2nd Linda
Youth Walk Trot - 2nd Alexis
Youth West Pl - 1st Alexis
Youth West Horsemanship - 1st Alexis, 4th Megahn Tauzier
Adult Walk Trot - 2nd Annette
Adult Western Pleasure - 2nd Annette, 4th LeeAnn, 5th Christy (on Dandy)
Adult Western Horsemanship - 2nd Annettte, 4th LeeAnn, 5th Christy
PeeWee Poles - 5th Linda
Youth Poles - 4th Rachel Carrington
Adult Poles - 4th Christy (Dandy)
Youth Speed - 1st Rachel

So chalk one more up for this season - not the best of nights - but it's officially in the books! There is a barrel race back at the fairgrounds today. Annette and Christy will head that way later and stay to play if the ground had been worked up really well since last night. So we will see how that goes!

Inn pee wee english eq - that should be Linda, not Lia! Boy, am I sleep deprived!!!

August 23, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeeAnn

Another show weekend in the books. Annette and Christy have been in Shelbyville all weekend at an IBRA show, so I am sure Annette will give an update when they return.

Friday night Kenzie and I went to Chesterfield. Joy and Rachel came out to give a hand, which we greatly appreciated!! Kenzie placed 1st in the pony class, 4th in youth walk trot and 3rd in peewee barrels. Remi and I got 4th place finishes in walk-trot and western pleasure. He was much better behaved that last weekend, so I was pleased with that!!

Last night we were at Oakfield. This is how the ribbons fell:
Halter - 1st Alexis (Remi), 2nd Taylor, 3rd Linda Sr.
Youth Halter Showmanship - 1st Alexis, 2nd Mackenzie, 3rd Taylor, 5th Lyssie (almost a Back 9 sweep!!)
Pony Class - Kenzie 3rd
Adult Walk Trot - LeeAnn 4th
Youth Poles - Rachel Carrington 4th
Open Poles - 4th Sara, 5th Rachel
Youth Western Pleasure - 1st Rachel, 4th Linda, 5th Taylor
Open Western Pleasure - 4th LeeAnn, 5th Linda
Open Speed - 3rd Rachel
Youth Barrels - 3rd Sara

We have Henry this weekend.Show season is winding down!! Then it will be barrel racing all winter!

We've had better nights overall, but we'll take it!!

Got through my carpal tunnel surgery on Wednesday only to get the flu on Thursday. Believe me when I say the surgery has been easier than the flu! Hopefully I'll be better in a few days. I think Brandy needs to make a house call to make me feel better.

Henry show was this past weekend. It was a big one with two judges to try to make up for all of the rainouts. So there were points awarded by each judge and the speed placings counted twice. As usual, I have to say a huge thank you to Joy and Rachel. They have been very faithful and supportive this season. Joy is right there to help me with my ridiculously fast tack change between walk trot and the English classes. And I didn;t write a thing down this show and Joy went back through the sheets to write them all down for me!! Here's how the placings went:

Non-gaited Halter - Annette 5th
Showmanship - LeeAnn 3rd
Buckaroo Pleasure - Mackenzie 2nd (by both judges)
Adult Western Pleasure - Annette 3rd, LeeAnn 4th
Open Western Pleasure - Annette 4th
Western Horsemanship - LeeAnn 3rd & 5th, Annette 4th
Country Pleasure - LeeAnn 3rd, Mackenzie 5th
English Equitation - LeeAnn 3rd, Alison 4th
PeeWee Poles - Mackenzie 4th
Youth Poles - Sara 2nd, Alison 4th
Open Poles - Sara 2nd, Alison 4th
PeeWee Barrels - Mackenzie 4th (Diego), 5th (Maggie)
Youth Barrels - Marley 3rd, Alison 4th, Sara 5th
Open Barrels - Sara 2nd, Alison 5th
Open Flags - Marley 4th

This weekend, Ms Annette and Christy will be headed to a barrel race...somewhere!! There is a youth horse show at the Soybean Festival in Martin, so Ms Linda and I might take the girls...we will see! Everyone have a great week!!!
