Babbles: November 15 - January 29

Well, I am finally at home on my computer and able to close out the old thread and start a new one!!  My computer at school will not support the editing software for this site, so I cannot do antyhing but read and post within a thread. But finally, here we go!!

Linda, Annette, Carrie and I had a great time at the North American International Livestock Expo watchign Dandy in his first AQHA show. He did a great job. Jackie competed in the healing competition. Even though Dandy did not place, he really had a great run, especially considering that Jackie has just been roping off of him for 3 months!! He is only going to get better!

We had the Oakfield Saddle Club Banquet last night and our kids did great!!! And even though Shane and Carla were not boarding with us until until a couple of weeks ago, I want to recognize their awards as well!! So here are how the year end awards shook out...

Western Halter: 1st Carla Alexander

Youth Halter Showmanship: 1st Rachel Gokel, 5th Mackenzie Johnson

Pony Class: 3rd Mackenzie Johnson

Open Poles: 2nd Sara Saddler

Open Hunt Seat: 2nd Rachel Gokel, 4th Lyssie Simons, 5th Linda Simons

Youth Western Pleasure: 1st Rachel Gokel, 3rd Lyssie Simons

Youth Walk Trot: 2nd Rachel Gokel, 3rd Lyssie Simons

Adult Walk Trot: 1st Carla Alexander, 4th Shane Alexander

Open Western Pleasure: 2nd Carla Alexander, 3rd Shane Alexander, 4th Rachel Gokel, 5th Lyssie Simons

Children's Barrels: 4th Sara Saddler

Open Speed: 5th Rachel Gokel

I am so proud of everyone!! Our kids have come such a long way in a short time!! I mean, Kenzie is only 4. Rachel did a fabulous job with Brandy... she is just an old lesson horse!! Lyssie had a great horse in Chico, but was trying to learn how to ride him.  And Linda competed all season in the pleasure classes on an old barrel horse! So I think that all these kids deserve such a pat on the back!! Hopefully next season we will be back with even better horses and more practice!! So congrats to all!!

We have the Henry banquet in a few weeks and then the Gibson County banquet in January, so there are plenty more prizes to come!! I hope everyone has a great week!!!

well, we've hit a speed bump already. I brought snickers up to the house and we were taking pictures of her and when we were done my brother asked if he could sit on her back and ya kno since i'd riden her already I said yea. well when I went to sit him on her back she started bucking. So, I saddled her up right then and there and took her to the field to get on her let's jus say the ground is alot harder than it looks. She put me off twice. Instead of goin for number three I lunged her for a while and ground worked her till she was following me around w/out a lead rope. She kept watchin me like "what do you want now?" I don't know if I did the right thing but I did the best I could for not being able to even feel my left side.I have never been afraid of an animal but that scared me to death. My uncle has a friend that works w/horses and he said he'd try to help. I'm just gonna keep workin w/her and hope for the best. Maybe try again later. well ttyl

MERRY CHRISTMAS&& HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

December 25, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSamantha

Marley, I really hate that snickers is not being very nice. If it were me, I would load her up and take her back where she came from. You do not need a bucker. There are plenty of nice, broke horses out there.

You need to have fun and it is certaintly not fun to get bucked off. I know - I have been there.

Otherwise, how was Christmas? Hope santa was good to you and your family.

I can't wait for you to start lessons again. We miss you and Miss Robin on Wednesdays!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

Back 9 started out the new year with a bang. We went to PPP and kicked butt!! Christy rode Sugar Baby, Jill and Dottie (Justin is visiting my Mom in Clarksville). This was only the 2nd time she has been on Jill and Dottie and the 1st time was the night before. And Sara rode Lucy of course.

They all had good runs. Dottie was 1st in the 2D in the Open and 1st in the 1D in the Youth. Jill was 4th in the 1D in the Youth. Dottie had the 3rd fastest time of the day!!!! Christy was on cloud 9 and so was I. With the first NBHA show of the season under our belts, Christy is 1st in the Open 2D, 1st int the Youth 1D and 1st in the Youth 2D. That is all I know for sure. Hopfully Sara and Christy's other horses got in there for points too. We will know in a few days when the points come out.

All in all we had a great New Years.

We are off to PPP again next week for the series. Christy is trying to figure out how to make Justin sick so she can ride Dottie and Jill again!! It is going to be interesting!!

I think I raised a great kid. Justin is letting Christy ride Dottie in the youth since it is her last year in youth. His only stipulation is that he gets a cut. Since Dottie felt like she had a fly on her back instead of a "Justin", I think that is a win win for both of them.

Good Luck to Christy on Dottie and Sugar Baby and Justin on Dottie and Jill. It should be an interesting year!!!!!!

We are definately going to make an attempt to take her back. I tried changing saddles and just lungeing her with it and she got to where she was bucking even just lungeing. It's just really bothering me that I have ridden her.I just don't have time too fool with one like that. So as soon as we get rid of her I guess we'll be back on the market. o...and christmas was great! I got everything I wanted!Except my present to myself was faulty ("Snickers") But other than that thanks! How was your christmas? And I miss everyone! Are Thursdays still ok for lessons? Well I gotta go.
See yall later

I know I don't know much about horses but is it possible something might be out of line on Snicker's back? Rachel and I miss seeing you as well.

I'm not sure but She was perfectly fine with me being up there when I rode her the first time. When I started actualy asking for some effort Is when she started this. but anyways my mom talked to the man we got her from today and He said we could bring her back this weekend. I'm already on the hunt for my next project tho. Show season is already makin it's way around! O and guess what in about 5 months I graduate grade school! Yay! I'm excited. Tell Rachel I miss her and I can't wait to see yall!

If someone describes a horse's tail as a skunk tail what does that mean?

January 7, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermarley

I am not sure Marley what skunk tailed means. I have never heard that. I have heard Coon tailed. That refers to white rings around the base of the tail.

Good luck with your search for a new horse.

Well it was another great Barrel Race at PPP!!!

Christy and Dottie won the Youth with a 14.7. That is the fastest they have run so far and I think the fastest Christy has ever run. The pair have run 3 times and gotten 3 firsts!! I think it is a match made in heaven!!!! Way to go Christy.

Justin was 5th in the youth 1D on Jill with a 15.2. Sara had a good run on Lucy and placed 3rd in the 2D with a 15.9. And Sugar Baby tripped going to the third barrel and turned without reins to run a 16.2. Not bad for a baby.

Sara was the only one to run poles and she did us proud. She ran a 22.6. Awsome run!!

Justin took the reins back on Dottie for the Open. He couldn't let Christy outrun him that bad, even though there is a 100 lb difference in jockey weight. He ran a 14.9! His fastest this season. He placed 3rd in the 2D. He ran a 15.0 on Jill and was just out of the money. Sara had 2 awsome barrels and then knocked the third and Christy and Sugar Baby are steadly improving. They came out with a 16.0. All in all it was a great day despite the rain and rapidly dropping temps. At least it ended early and we didn't freeze too bad.

Well it is back to PPP next weekend for the 2nd NBHA show of the year. Christy will be riding Dottie in the Youth and Sugar Baby in both, Justin will be on Dottie in Open and Jill in both. And Sara will ride Lucy in barrels and poles.

Good Luck to All!!!!!!!

I am so ready for summer and show saddle club season.

January 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnnette

I haven't been on here in forever!! Congrats to all the riders at PPP!!! What great runs! You guys represent us well!!! Kenzie didn't go because Diego had a bout with colic last week and spent two nights at the vets getting fluids. We are very happy that he is doing better and we didn't have to take him to Lexington, KY, to the surgery center!!! He is way to perfect of a pony to let anything happen to him!!

Marley, I think it is the best thing that you take that horse back and keep looking. There are lots of good horses out there, so I certainly would not settle on one. And the more money you can save, the more likely you are to find something since you will have more to spend! So keep looking and have faith that the right horse will come along at the right time!

And I can't wait for saddle club shows to start up either!!! Annette and I are hoping to rack up in the adult pleasure classes this year with Remi and Koda. They are really coming along and doing fabulous! Now - if WE can just catch up to our horses' ability level!! I have pulled out the sewing machine and am working on shirt #1 for Mackenzie (I have the material for about 5... we'll see how many I actually make!) I bought a couple shirts for myself and hope to make several more. Might as well do that while it is cold!!! BRRRRRRRRR It is supposed to be like 9 this week - that is just crazy!!!!! Everyone have a great week and stay warm!!!!!

LeeAnn, ditto on shirts! I've been searching for Marley's for this year. I have one I need finish from last year. We're also looking for tack for English class this year. I'm already excited about a new season. Hope to see you guys soon. With husband not working on a regular basis it's sort of hard to come to the barn, but things will get back to normal when the weather warms a bit. (He's a brick mason, with his own business) The economy hasn't helped any either. We miss you all so much.
Robin

Congratulations at Triple P. Sounds like you guys are doing an awesome job. :) Keep up the good work!

How about the Back 9 showing at the Gibson County Saddle Club Awards Banquet? WE ROCK!!! I am very excited because Mallory has decided she will ride again. (Now just to figure out the financial side of it.) I'm just glad she will face what she's been afraid of. We all had a good time at the banquet and look forward to seeing the pictures of everyone.

OK Miss LeeAnn, it is time for another thread

January 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnnette

Rhonda,

I am glad to hear that. I was sure she would come back eventually. It needs to be fun for her.
