Babbles: November 15 - January 29

Well, I am finally at home on my computer and able to close out the old thread and start a new one!!  My computer at school will not support the editing software for this site, so I cannot do antyhing but read and post within a thread. But finally, here we go!!

Linda, Annette, Carrie and I had a great time at the North American International Livestock Expo watchign Dandy in his first AQHA show. He did a great job. Jackie competed in the healing competition. Even though Dandy did not place, he really had a great run, especially considering that Jackie has just been roping off of him for 3 months!! He is only going to get better!

We had the Oakfield Saddle Club Banquet last night and our kids did great!!! And even though Shane and Carla were not boarding with us until until a couple of weeks ago, I want to recognize their awards as well!! So here are how the year end awards shook out...

Western Halter: 1st Carla Alexander

Youth Halter Showmanship: 1st Rachel Gokel, 5th Mackenzie Johnson

Pony Class: 3rd Mackenzie Johnson

Open Poles: 2nd Sara Saddler

Open Hunt Seat: 2nd Rachel Gokel, 4th Lyssie Simons, 5th Linda Simons

Youth Western Pleasure: 1st Rachel Gokel, 3rd Lyssie Simons

Youth Walk Trot: 2nd Rachel Gokel, 3rd Lyssie Simons

Adult Walk Trot: 1st Carla Alexander, 4th Shane Alexander

Open Western Pleasure: 2nd Carla Alexander, 3rd Shane Alexander, 4th Rachel Gokel, 5th Lyssie Simons

Children's Barrels: 4th Sara Saddler

Open Speed: 5th Rachel Gokel

I am so proud of everyone!! Our kids have come such a long way in a short time!! I mean, Kenzie is only 4. Rachel did a fabulous job with Brandy... she is just an old lesson horse!! Lyssie had a great horse in Chico, but was trying to learn how to ride him.  And Linda competed all season in the pleasure classes on an old barrel horse! So I think that all these kids deserve such a pat on the back!! Hopefully next season we will be back with even better horses and more practice!! So congrats to all!!

We have the Henry banquet in a few weeks and then the Gibson County banquet in January, so there are plenty more prizes to come!! I hope everyone has a great week!!!

Miss LeeAnn, I hate to do this but Dandy was Heading not Heeling. He could have been healing if he was hurt but he wasn't! Sorry - couldn't help myself.

We did have a great time and Dandy was competing against 30 seasoned horses and he is just a newbie. Way to go Dandy!!

Ok you know your child is horse/donkey crazy when they volunteer to be the donkey in the school's Christmas musical. Rachel signed up to be the donkey several months ago but I thought the school was supplying the costumes. I was just worried about blonde hair and a gray donkey. Poor thinking on my part. I ended up spending yesterday making a donkey costume for todays dress rehersal. I made the costume a kind of grey/beige color which matches with her hair which will be braided down her back. She really makes a cute donkey and spending so much time with Rex even sounds like him. Hope some of you can make the performance next Thursday night at Caywood here in Lexington.

Joy, thank goodness you can sew! Otherwise you would really be up a creek! I am sure she will make a great donkey!
By the way, we have officially set the barn Christmas party for Sunday afternoon Dec 7th at 2:00. Hopefully all of our lessons sudents and their families can make it!!

Hey thanks so much for including Levi in your adventures in Kentucky. We couldn't keep him quiet about it the next day. I finally thawed out about 8pm last night.

To whoever left the jumps up in the indoor I now know that my pleasure horse has no future in jumping. That was a tragic idea. She has no business near a jump. Ha ha. I know the conversation the other day was that any horse can jump but really they all shouldn't. It wasn't pretty.

Jinx however who has never even jumped a log he could step up on did jump and we were really proud of him. After he got over his "you want me to do WHAT" moment he jumped very nicely. Shane hasn't done it on him yet other than the cross rails because we haven't quite hit our 4 year mark but I am sure that will happen soon. He did jump the barrels on a line though.

We are having a lot of fun out there and are very happy you all let us join you.

Carla,
We are so glad to have you! We had lots of fun Saturday! It was cold - but it was sorth it just to see you block that calf!!! I hate that I missed Dolce jumping! I am sure it was a sight to see! Normally we want those pleasure horses to keep those feet low and slow!Maybe I should learn to ride my horse before I try to jump him! LOL!

I cannot believe we are at another Thanksgiving. The year has flown by - again. I want to thank everyone for including Rachel and I in your lives. Having a horse/barn family to be part of when ours is so far away feels really great and is a comfort to us all. My sister has stated more than once how grateful she is that we have you guys to turn to when we need help or just someone to talk to.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We enjoyed food, family, and fellowship. We're really missing Jackson, but still having trouble finding the time to travel. Hope the "Gobble Gobble" camp was a huge success. I enjoyed reading the newsletter. Everyone should be very proud of their accomplishments. Keep warm, winter is finally here!

We have decided to sell Mallory's Billy Cook saddle. Not sure if she will ride again or not but she's not as serious as she needs to be for that type of saddle. If anyone would like a 13 1/2 youth barrell saddle, looks like new, give me a call at 731-267-0904. Hope everyone is almost ready for Christmas. I'm ready for the time off! -Rhonda (Mallory's mom)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS :))

December 20, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSamantha

Well I am sure you will do a great job with her! I wish you all the luck in the world!! We would love for you to bring her and let us see her! That is so exciting! I would certainly talk to the people who had her and see what bit they rode her in. That way you can be consistent with what she is used to. You may find that you need to change it, but I would start with what she knows!

And merry Christmas to you, too, Sam!!!!
